Do ES6 exported object properties have an implementation?

I am reading the MDN article “Importing modules with ES6 modules” and it says the following:

It’s generally a good idea to export things from an ES6 module using
export rather than import (as noted above).

I find this hard to believe. I have no idea what happens when you import something from a module. Isn’t that imported only to access the exported object properties or methods (as the ES5 import), but not to create new instances of a class? If the property is not used in the next source file, does it simply die with no warning? Is there a way to have property access with import statements or do you have to use export for the property?
Here is an example:
// where.js

export class Foo {
// Add code here to create Foo
doSomething() {
// Add code here to use Foo

// index
